Artist inspires with workshop and picture

Sixth Form Art and Textile students had a one day art workshop based on improving their painting, sketching and idea development skills with artist Adebanji Alade. Adebanji specialises in sketching, drawing and painting people and places. During the workshop, Adebanji discussed books on art he’s published and his artwork style, such as his plein air painting. He talked about his work on the BBC ‘The One Show’ as resident artist, during which he has painted public figures such as Chris Eubank and interviewed other artists.

This picture is the painting Adebanji painted during one of his demonstrations and presented to us afterwards.

Joy at our Year 7 Retreats

We have just completed all our Year 7 retreats. We hold these every year, at the start of the academic term, to welcome our new pupils and they also act as a good bonding experience. The positive feedback from pupils is extremely encouraging…

What did you learn about yourself on the retreat?
· I realised I didn’t have to be someone I wasn’t
· To be yourself, to be a upstander and don’t be a bully
· To not let others affect your confidence
· I enjoy big class discussions and games
· That I am a good leader

What did you learn about other people in your class?
· I learnt that other people have some differences to me and that’s ok
· I learnt that there is another side to people than meets the eye
· Everyone is different and special in their own way
· We should praise each other when we have done something good and should take a loss and not just blame it on one particular person
· That these people are actually interesting

Did you learn anything about God today?
· Yes. That God made us beautiful. If someone says you are not beautiful, don’t trust them. God made us wonderful
· Don’t let anyone bring you down because of your looks. That’s how God made you, you don’t need anyone’s approval. God thinks you’re amazing
· He is amazing and loving and kind and fabulous and everything
· That He is always looking out for us, saves us and He will always be their to protect us from any danger.
· I learnt that no matter what mood you’re in, sad or happy, God is always there for you

Saint Cecilia’s Careers Fair Success

On Monday 26th September, we welcomed close to 30 delegates into school for our inaugural Careers Fair. Many of the delegates came from the parent body, to whom we are very grateful. The energy in the hall represented a real interest in finding out about the myriad of careers and industries on show. Pupils had a great time, with one Year 13 thrilled to have secured a contact for work experience and several Year 10 girls delighted to find out about careers in animation.

Surrey Storm Partnership Training kicks off with Peace Proscovia!

On Friday 16th September, the Surrey Storm Partnership training got underway. The Saint Cecilia’s senior netball squads had their first training session with Peace Proscovia, who is both the captain of the Ugandan netball team and a key player for Superleague netball team Surrey Storm. After Peace competed in the Commonwealth Games over the summer, she returned to play for Surrey Storm this season, and to coach our senior netball teams. The girls are so excited to be coached by such a formidable and knowledgeable player, and we are all excited to see what these squads can achieve this season.

Her Majesty the Queen 1926-2022

We are greatly saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As head of the Church of England, Queen Elizabeth was a respected monarch and much-loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her life of service to our country, as one of the world’s longest serving heads of state, makes her a source of admiration to many.

Saint Cecilia’s School community would like to express our sincere condolences and our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this difficult time.

GSCE Results Day

“We are delighted with our 2022 GCSE results and especially proud of this year group who have achieved exceptional grades, despite having a somewhat interrupted period of study. A real highlight has been the results in English and Maths, where 83% of our pupils achieved a grade 9-4 in both subjects. We look forward to welcoming a huge number of them back into our Sixth Form in September.”
