Supporting More Able Pupils and Students
Saint Cecilia’s is fully committed to the equality of opportunity for all pupils and students. Every learner, of whatever ability, has the right to be challenged and encouraged to develop to their full potential. It is therefore important that the needs of the More Able learners are met to ensure they continue to be challenged and make progress. Through raising expectations, challenge and attainment of the More Able pupils and students, we will raise the achievement of all pupils.
We have launched a new enrichment programme for More Able pupils and students. The programme offers three key areas of support for these learners: the quality of teaching and learning in class, educational opportunities provided beyond the classroom, and attention to the social and emotional welfare of the child. All More Able pupils are invited to attend the sessions provided for their year group, to help them broaden and deepen their learning and understanding beyond the confines of the curriculum. These sessions include university visits, well-being sessions, study skill workshops, competitions and discovery sessions run by school staff.
As Sixth Form students are starting to think about their next steps, including university courses, it is important to access wider opportunities. To help students in this, we have curated a lecture list for this term. If students are interested in attending any of these lectures, they must organise it themselves and make their parent/carer aware. The lecture list for Autumn 2024-5 is linked below.
The programme for More Able Pupils is led by Mr James Robinson and Ms Sarah Wood.
