National Concert Band Festival

On Saturday 15th April, the Concert Band took part in the final of the National Concert Band Festival. This year, the final took place in the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. The band played amazingly well, and received some excellent feedback. We are very proud to announce that they were awarded Silver for our performance. To achieve Gold in the Regionals and Silver in the Nationals, in their first year of trying, is a fantastic achievement.

 

Debating Masters Reach the Finals

On Friday 24th February, Heather G and Macaulay F (Year 11) visited the Embassy of the United States of America to continue Saint Cecilia’s proud record of success in the annual Frankly Speaking Debate Competition. The event is organised by Benjamin Franklin House in conjunction with the US Embassy, and pits schools from across London against one another.

Heather and Macaulay debated topics such as whether celebrities should be held accountable for their carbon footprints and the role of teenagers in social movements. They eventually reached the final where they were narrowly defeated - a valiant effort given they had to argue the unjustifiable position that social media didn’t lead to the spread of misinformation! Well done to Heather and Macaulay on their second-place finish. Both had a great day and were a credit to the school.

Sportshall Athletics Further Success

Last month we reported that the Year 8 boys’ indoor athletics team won the Wandsworth Sportshall Athletics event. This meant that on Thursday 9th February they went on to represent Wandsworth at the London regional Sportshall Athletics event at Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre. The level of competition at the event was much higher. The boys competed in a range of athletics events such as standing long jump, triple jump, vertical jump, shotput, speed bounce, sprints and relays. Our Year 8 boys ended up winning, meaning they have qualified for the London finals on Tuesday 21st March. This is a fantastic achievement! Well done to all the athletes as their hard work at the extra training sessions paid off. We look forward to seeing how they get on against the best teams in London next month. Saint Cecilia's Bake Off 2023

What an amazing baking bonanza we witnessed at the Saint Cecilia’s Bake Off 2023! It was a display of baking mastery and creativity. Without doubt, we have pupils who would excel in baking as a career! It was difficult, but the judges, Mrs Joseph and Mr Owen, managed to come to a decision. Well done to Cristina V in in Year 9 for her winning this year’s title with her Saint Cecilia’s Uniform cake.

Record Number of Wimbledon Ball Boy and Ball Girls!

We are delighted to announce that Saint Cecilia’s has had a record number of 20 Ball Boys and Ball Girls selected for the Wimbledon Championships 2023! This is an enormous achievement and all 20 should be congratulated as the selection process is notoriously rigorous. It is particularly impressive given the statistics: 250 Ball Boys and Ball Girls were chosen from over 1,000 applicants and Saint Cecilia’s pupils will represent almost 10% of all pupils working at the championships!
