Visit from Korean teachers and librarians

The Library welcomed a delegation of four Korean teachers and librarians, accompanied by a translator. The visitors were here to see how we successfully manage the Library and promote reading in school.

Ms Derby, our Librarian, facilitated the visit and the group had the opportunity to tour the school, interact with the children, observe the Library and enjoy some refreshments.

We very much enjoyed the exchange of ideas!

Movers and Shakers

Mrs Renata Joseph, our Headteacher, has been featured in the September edition of the Nappy Valley Magazine. In the article, entitled ‘Movers and Shakers’ on page 115 of the magazine, Mrs Joseph explains her vision for Saint Cecilia’s. She wrote: “I want to establish partnerships with other schools - collaboration is key.” And added, “Our local community is important to us - hosting events and engaging with charities, community groups and local businesses.” You can read the full article here

Capability Brown Society Saturday Concert

After a successful performance last year, the Saint Cecilia's concert band were invited back to play at the Wimbledon Club on Saturday 14 September, at another show staged by the Capability Brown Society.

The concert followed the band’s tour of Salzburg in the summer, and they reprised medleys from Shrek, Pirates of The Caribbean and Grease among others.

As well as conducting, Mr Robinson encouraged the audience to dance as the  host from the Capability Brown Society praised the dynamism of the band.

Included in these results, there were some impressive individual performances with a high percentage of our leavers gaining places at a their first university choices, including Russell Group, to study a diverse range of courses.

There were strong A level performances in various subject departments. In Biology, 46% of grades were A* - A; in Further Maths, 43% of grades were A* - A and 40% of Geography grades were A* - A. In Government and Politics 81% of grades achieved were A*-B; in English Literature, 69% of grades were A* - B.

GCSE figures were also impressive: 87.4% of English grades were 9-4  (English 73.3% were 9-5) and 77.0% of Maths grades were 9-4. A number of subject departments enjoyed significant successes. The ‘Attainment 8’ measure this year is 51.3.

A large cohort of our Year 11 pupils are now continuing their education with us into the Sixth Form.

Our students worked really hard and we are extremely proud of their efforts. Thank you to our dedicated team of staff and to parents for their support.

Champion School for Healthy Relationships Programme

We are delighted that from September 2019, Saint Cecilia’s will become a champion school for the Healthy Relationships Programme for Wandsworth Borough. Tender (who worked with our Year 8 pupils in 2017) are coming back to our school, along with the Latin American Women’s Rights group, to work with pupil leaders across Year 9 and 10 on teaching and promoting healthy relationships whether they are family, friendship or romantic relationships.

A series of assemblies and workshops will start the ball rolling; support us by asking your child what they have learned through these assemblies and how they are fostering healthy relationships at school and at home. More information

Our BBGS

Our ball boys and girls represented the school brilliantly during the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament at the ALTC. Congratulations to Lydia Martin, Joseph Horrobin, Oliver French and Harry Sanderson. The group went through a rigorous selection process and months of weekly training sessions for what is considered by many a ’lifetime experience’.

Every year the AELTC receives over 700 applicants and selects 250 Ball Boys and Girls from local secondary schools to take part in the tournament.
